It's like Neon Genesis Evangelion, but post-Brexit
DECEMBER.
We forgot to send this email before Christmas, so now the only possible subject for an intro is the festive perineum that resides between December 25th and December 30th; a festive wasteland where our bodies struggle to handle the raw volume of cheese we ate the week previously and we try to remember what day it is. (We are assured today is Sunday, but we only have the calendar’s word on that, and honestly we’d believe anything it told us.) Anyway, here’s an email:
TRAMFORCE
You're a near-future cop, tasked with keeping the peace in a suit of experimental powered armour which is, due to unavoidable budget constraints, tethered to an always-moving tram.
A free one-page RPG which includes OPERATION: CHRISTMAS, in which barbarians from Blackpool come to steal Eastbourne’s Christmas lights in order to make an illuminated maze to their dead god.
DRAGONMEET
We did Dragonmeet! It was a genuinely fantastic experience - we’ve not exhibited there before, but it came with a brilliant crowd of people who were engaged and excited to play, talk about and buy roleplaying games. We were lucky enough to rock up with the UK Indie RPG League again - as we did with UK Games Expo - which meant that we could afford a nice stall and everything. We’re already looking forward to next year.
STRATA
We’re nearly done with Strata! The writing side of it, anyway. All but one of the scenarios is in the final stage of editing, and Adrian’s illustrations are all coming together too. We’re on schedule for a release in April 2019, which is pretty exciting. If you missed the Kickstarter campaign, you can pre-order the book (and a wide variety of other exciting things) through our pre-order page here.
RESISTANCE HACKS
Since releasing the Resistance Toolbox - the bare bones of the system which powers Spire - we’ve been blown away by the enthusiasm that the community has put into hacking it into telling different stories. So far, we’ve had Ascendancy (queer sci-fi superheroes), Facade (transvampire existence and survival), Waystation Deimos (space survival horror) and Scavengers of Ruus (desert subsistence and weird technology). They’re all in various stages of completeness, and you can keep track of their development in the Resistance-Hacks channel on our Spire discord (which you can join here).
That’s it! Not much news this month, but it’s December, innit. Much love, and have a happy new year.
