Falling Angels

Falling Angels

I tried writing my standard long blog post to go alongside this game, but it really wasn't working.

I've scrapped it.

Here it is boiled down to a brisk set of bullet points:

  • I've always liked it when one thing is big and the other is little (ref: BIG GOAT LITTLE GOAT) on account of both enhancing the other
  • Twelve years ago I did a setting called FIMBULWINTER MECHAPOCALYPSE with big monstrous quadrupedal mechs and little Scandinavian mech hunters, and you can read the abandoned play-by-post game about it here
  • Then I wrote a wargame about it but it never even got to playtest because I'm not a wargames writer and needed to focus on roleplaying games
  • But now I'm a free fuckin agent babey so I'll write what I bloody want
  • Need to make miniatures for it mind
  • Shame I don't have any quadrupedal mechs knocking around in my bits box
  • Hey! Space marines are pretty big and I have many space marines
  • As a 40-year-old British man I think about space marines a lot. I think it's kind of our Roman Empire, except our Roman Empire is also the Roman Empire kinda
  • What if there was a game the emphasised the bigness of a space marine whilst also emphasising the smallness of non-space marines?
  • How do we make them feel awkward? Cue 500 words of meandering
  • Some guff about vehicle turning templates and hit location tables from 2nd Ed 40k that never really went anywhere interesting because it amounts to "I'm using them I guess"
  • Fin

You'll have to enjoy the game instead of my usual waffling.

FALLING ANGELS is a game about big old space marines causing problems and stomping about over the lives of mortals. It positions them as very powerful but unwieldy, and their mortal chums as less powerful but very... wieldy, I guess. Games take about thirty minutes. Your space marine powers up when your wee lads face ignoble deaths.

Everyone's got a space marine or two knocking around, right?

You could play this evening, I bet.

I have also attached colour versions of the black and white ones used in the game so you can see my incredible painting skills. If you make a space marine and some attendant dorks, please do send me pictures.
